One Young Heart...In Turmoil

Days may pass me by….but not childhood memories of the past,
About one such dark, bad and woeful day….my thoughts will last.
Mothers and fathers of this our caring nation…showing their grief,
For the parents and lost children of Aberfan…in horror and disbelief.

This was not a mining accident…deep underground,
But a mountain of coal slack moved…and an avalanche rained down.
No time for warnings as the black soot…buried everything in its way,
And a school full of happy children…were robbed of life that day.

Mothers and fathers digging with bare hands…albeit in vain,
As their quest to rescue their trapped children…ended in grief and strain.
Their poor little children…engulfed in a sea of soot and coal slack,
As their anguish and pain grips their bodies…and no tears held back.

Bereaved parents with gaunt and horror filled faces...complete the picture,
As they try to come to terms with losing a child…destroying the future.
No time to give their lost loved ones…a last kiss or to say goodbye,
Just cuddle their limp and lifeless bodies…as they uncontrollably cry

Such poor and unfortunate little children…will now be playing happily,
As they live their lives in heaven…as little angels they will be.
One hope remains for their parents…giving relief from all their pain,
That one-day they will join them in heaven…and cuddle once again.
